Adios barecelona - hello maastricht!

Adios Barcelona.....

So I get the impression - its time to move on....

Gettin the hang of Barcelona - did a bit of tourism yesterday - getting my Gaudi in. Its been fun - I haven't been to a discotech yet, there's always when I fly out!

Found some new travel partners yesterday - Gabby and Megan - they were about knocking out some sights in a day - so I surfed the wave! We got to see the huge gaudi sagrada familia - was fantastic - its been under construction for forever. Since Gaudi was living!

Robin mentioned Gaudi can easily be spotted as the: "Fraggle Rock looking Buildings" - haha - its about right.

With all las ramblas craziness - the tapas - the gaudi - the architecture - the Spanish culture is quite elegant. I can definitely now discern the difference in Spanish and Latin culture. Barcelona is a beautiful place - its bustling with tourists and yet seems to have a pace about it that is simply relaxed and carefree.

Travelers galore - traveler prices - yet - in modest neighborhoods tapas will run you much less than anywhere near the strip. Spanish people are friendly - very proud and have a great overall general respect about them.

I heard one person say, "Spanish culture is very slow - when people speak to you in the street or you ask them something, they have a few minutes to stop and have a chat."

I can really see that - lackadaisical society - where some people move quickly, but the general overall pace of the people is quite slow. Yet, I wonder how things are done here, I don't see too much industriousness going on - except for maybe on la cathedral or sangrada familia. And yet it reminds me of an all too familiar saying I've heard so many people - work hard now, play later.

With the fabulous and classic European architecture that is spread out throughout Barcelona - it is as if the catalan culture did all its work a very long time ago, and everyone seems to be reaping far now into the future. It is as if the Gaudi masterpiece La Sangrada Familia - is the finishing touch of a long period of development. Now its time to drink sangria and enjoy the fruits of labor of those that built so long ago.

Las Ramblas

Las Ramblas is the center strip. Hectic and crazy amongst some amazing spanish architecture, this culture thrives. The hustle and bustle of the touristy/ritzy las ramblas avenue is impressive. Just seeing the people and the tapas, bars, nightclubs and culture of spain is incredible.





I still cannot believe I'm here. Exposure to the culutre is simply magnificent. People in Spain are slower, a bit more present and relaxed that much of New York. Barcelona is a romantic town with amazing classical architecture everywhere, just an air of a grandiose giant of a culutre is imminent here.





The amount of tourism in the city is quite evident. Whilst walking down las ramblas - it was clear that we were not the only tourists. Beware of the scammers and pickpockets tho, they are everywhere - quite easy to spot - most of them are straight moroccan. Darker skined than the native spainish culture.





The two cultures learn to coexist - however, the Moroccan culture seems to be a bit frowned upon for their illegial immigration and extortion of tourists. They as a culture seem to be quite rich in sentiments to offer the melting pot of cultures that congregate in Barcelona, however it seems a bit more forced now than it is welcomed.





Finding more crazy tapas and great food everywhere. Had pallea today with tortalini for lunch and for dinner had muscles, tomato bread with olives, half decent calamari and patatas bravas (potatoes in hotsauce) which was the best I've had so far. Trying to tone it down a bit because I am running through Euros a bit quick lately. Tomorrow is strictly sightseeing and pictures.





Off of las ramblas there is a side street that runs slightly diagonal but almost parallel to las ramblas. The place is called cardinal casanas I beleive. On that street there is a wonderful place called Juicy Jones that has some of the freshest juice ever. Its fantastic - went back there a second time when we went to las ramblas tonight, got a quick orange juice (amazing) and headed for dinner.





Caught this amazing gelato store on the way in to juicy jones - all of it look like so fluffy whipped and fresh ice cream so we had to try it. I went with a hostel mate, a guy named Robin from Canada, who lives in England, that I've been chillen with for the last day or so. I had the dulce de leche - I figured I'm in Spain - why not - and it was sensational!





After that we headed into Placa Real - I wanted to go to le quizine nits - and I was talked out of it by Robin - for a cheaper spot. So we went next door - but I am determined to eat there since lets go highly recommended it. Maybe day after tomorrow before I head out or something.





Considering surfing in Barcelona a bit next week for the last few days - after I have seen and experienced everything - then I beleive I will head out for Madrid or Holland - leaning towards Holland - so I can drop some stuff off, lighten my load, setup my finances properly and finally design a nice eurail plan and a nice lightish backpack - right now its at about 48-50lbs in stuff - need to be 40ish to fly ryan air. I will need to work that out before I leave - maybe wear my boots and layer out.





Its been fun so far - anyone want anything from Spain - let me know - architecture is fantastically beautiful and its just been a blast of a city. Went in early tonight, have had a few already late nights on the town. I'd like to tone it down a bit. Spain is fun!





In a three bed dorm room - by myself tonight - its a suite with a bathroom - have a single tomorrow - then I head out to another hostel or a free couch!

Ps. Also hittin the market tomorrow - apparently really fresh and cool - fixin to make some great food - sometimes my kitchen has the best money can buy no matter where I am!

I also get free bbm and most of my skype calls to landlines and cells in the states are free! Only my legit SMS and telephone calls are expensive!

Little Barcelona a noche!

Tonite we ventured into La Ramblas - a very popular bustling strip. Filled with pickpockets and different entertainers - artists - stores - etc. After some fresh juice we wandered into La Ramblas to hit up juicy jones.

I beasted down several glasses of fresh juice:

1 Pear, Strawberry,

2 OJ

1 Orange Mango

Checked out a Martini Bar further up the city. Then met a few cool international people on the way back down the ramblas on my late night tapas hunt. Hanging out with Robin a canadian guy that lives in london and is working to be a pro photographer.

After the extremely stiff but very fun Martini bar, and meeting the international people, we ended up in lower Ramblas looking for food at around 3am Barcelona time. Fun as it was we ended up with some flafel type non meat gyros and some fries. We had to make our way back up to plaza de catlyuna to catch our bus, which let us off in the general town area of our hostel, from which we wandered around at about 4:30 me thinking I knew where to go because my cabby got lost in the vicinity of the hostel last night.

...I didn't - but luckily a cabbie showed up out of nowhere at just the right time and 6 euros later we were home.

Barcelonas main street down town area goes from the ocean through la ramblas and up the city quite a bit. Its like one large L shape.

On the way back down to la ramlas from the martini bar we stumbled upon a famous Gaudi Building pictured above.

Lets see what tomorrow brings.....

Time Changes!

It was 12pm at home last night when I finally turned in - I don't even want to know what time it was here! Still getting used to the whole time thing. One thing I really did learn is - that no matter how amazing the place you are in when the horn wakes you up early in the am - life has funny ways of telling you its time to get up.

Going back to sleep.... well that generally doesnt go so hot. haha.

Well today - I will sit - call Bubs - check out a few cool things - then link with someone I met here later in the evening!

Arrived in Barcelona~!

Out of the Consumerism land and into a beautiful city. Its only now as I write and reflect on what little I've seen since my arrival, that I realize just how magnificent it really was. The architecture has an air grandiose about it. All this time I have heard about GAUDI buildings.

Tommorrow, I will begin my Barcelona adventure actually see some of them.



Went on a Tapas hunt once I settled a bit in my room. The fried calamari was the freshest I have ever had. Since I'm still gettin the hang of things, I will actually be going somewhere in my guidebook for a change!

As a stranger wandering around a huge city - a guidebook is definitely something I can easily see coming in handy!

Hopped over the puddle!

Just arrived in London!

Hopped over on the 11:50 pm british airways flight. Didn't seem to take to long - wasn't able to fall asleep until about 2 hours in. Got some nice rest watched a bit of "the invention of lying" and I have to say british airways is my new fav airline. Service is superb - they have 747s with the upstairs which I've always wanted to see and everything was included - even wine!

Heathrow is pretty crazy - it seems like the consumerism capital with hermes cartier tiffany each having their own store in the airport!

Had some eggs for brekkie - which came with french fries - lol - and am just chillen out till my 2pm flight to barcelona!

I am off to the feet up hostel and then on the hunt for some good tapas!

Departure and the First Leg~!

So heres the plan:

I fly out from JFK to Barcelona on March 16th. I have a round trip ticket that takes me back home on August 10th. The day before the birthday of someone I really care about, my lovely partner and best friend: Anna Desis ~! Its also 10 or so days before my wonderful sister Caley will be getting married! Exciting times when I return~!

The plan is to fly into Barcelona on the 16th via London, explore Barcelona and maybe a bit of Spain, eventually making my way to my best friend Haroldo's flat in Maastricht, Holland.

Ryan Air has a cheap flight from Barcelona straight to Maastricht, yet I am not the greatest paper planner, so I will have to see when exactly that will go down. I'd like to see a bit of Spain as well, maybe Madrid and Sevilla or possibly tour the Mediterranean Coast before heading up to Bubbles~!

So thats the game plan. Will keep y'all posted on more details. Right now I'm gearing up for the trek and making sure I pack light.

One of the harder things in leaving, is being away from my family and Anna especially for so long. She is someone I really care about and I will really miss her. Hopefully, we will reunite in Greece in July / August before the wedding. Although I have trouble, I do feel like its a great experience for us both and for our relationship.

So whilst I am sad to leave, I am also very excited and super stoked for the privillage and honor to travel the world and allow these experiences to help me allow the man I am to become to come to fruition.

My intention for traveling, is:

"To allow the light of spirit to reflect and radiate off of me, just as the light of the sun reflects and radiates off the ocean"
